Ever wondered why the Autism Awareness Ribbon is the puzzle print? or why it's those colors?
To be honest before Autism was a part of my life I wouldn't of been able to answer either of those questions and for those out there who aren't in an environment where Autism is a part of your life I would understand completely that you may have never even seen the Autism ribbon. This is why I thought I'd write a quick post showing and explaining the story behind the ribbon.
I did a little Google searching in 'research' for this post and came across a great website run by Cher - a mum who's son, Jonathon, has been diagnosed with Autism - the website has all kinds of links to treatments and information, Jonathon Story and even a page dedicated to Jonathon's grandma's point of view! On here I also found a page of clip art and graphics that Cher has done up for use on blogs, websites, anywhere all about autism which is where I found the above picture - The perfect thing for this post!! - It reads "The Autism Awareness Ribbon - The puzzle pattern of the ribbon reflects the mystery and complexity of Autism. The different colors and shapes represents the diversity of people and families living with the disorder. The brightness of the ribbon signals hope - hope through research and increasing awareness in people like you."
